Removing Animations

Sometimes you may need to present some PowerPoint slides that include gratuitous animations.

As an example, some people seem to find joy in fading in of each bullet point.  This tells the audience one thing.  You don't trust them enough to concentrate on your current bullet point if they can see future ones.

This animation also causes a problem for the speaker.  Often the speaker cannot remember upcoming bullet points and not know when the last one was reached.  This seriously interrupts the flow of the presentation.

If you have to use bullet points, don't fade them in one by one.  If you are given a slide deck to present that does do this, you can prevent the animations playing in PowerPoint 2007 by clicking on the "Slide Show" tab, clicking "Set Up Slide Show" and checking the "Show without animation" checkbox.  This preserves the animations in case you ever want to go back to them.

If you ever want to remove the animations completely, you can do this using a script available here.
