Snopes email integration

Snopes email integration

It appears that not everyone checks Snopes.com before they forward some incredible information that everyone on the planet has to be informed of immediately.

So, why there isn't a Snopes filter in addition to all of the spam filters?

The Snopes filter would check your incoming mail and tag it with a snopes rating.  If the email is a clear candidate for the "false" category it would also put it in a special folder called "Trash" (configurable).  It could even then send a reply to the kind sender letting them know they too should get this filter (configurable too).

The Snopes filter could use a webservice provided by Snopes.com.  The filter would use a clever hash algorithm that assigns a series of numbers (hashes) to your incoming piece of mail.  These numbers are then matched against Snopes.com database.  Your emails would not be vulnerable as it is impossible to take these hashes and recreate the email text.  The whole process would be quick and painless.

If someone wants to create this filter, please, please, please do so and let me know.

I have given this idea some thought too. I would have an outgoing filter as well. I get a lot of forwarded stuff from people who think they are doing me a favour. If they got warned that the item was found false by Snopes before they sent it, maybe they would think twice about forwarding it.

What about the mail that comes with "as
verified by Snopes". When you can see the red light coming a mile away.

Yes I would like to have this Snopes Mail Integration for both my incoming and outgoing emails. I recently received a forwarded email offering a FREE Ericson laptop if I send to 8 or 20 persons, which I think Snopes would know whether it's true or false. Thanks.

Is it true that MSG is in many foods and drinks (coffee). In eating out there are many foods that contain MSG
I would LOVE this

I wish there was a snopes filter like this we could integrate into my mother's e-mail (and every friend and relative of hers that sends her the garbage she then forwards on to me). It could just be a button in the menu-bar of the e-mail client, it scans the text and runs a check against the snopes database and comes back with a true/ false. Seems simple enough, but I don't know a thing about programming...
