I was emailing a friend today, giving them some advice on starting a venture. I wrote the following before I had chance to think, and wanted to share:
Whatever venture you start out doing, there are 2 critical keys:
1. Do something you absolutely love, or absolutely believe in, or both.
2. You need to love/believe in your “thing” so much that you cannot help but tell people about it.
If your venture doesn't have both of the above, look for something else. Number 1 will mean that you put your heart into it. Number 2 means that it is something that is marketable, and you will market it to get the ball rolling. The ideas will be infectious if the person telling you about it absolutely believes in it. Without that, it doesn't matter how good the idea is.
